Background
The year 2014. 10 students, under Martin Preuß's guidance , stood before the decision which kind of movie they wanted to create as their self-related project. The decision was clear very soon, as we decided to create a music video, as noone of us had done such a thing, yet. All of us were very motivated and were looking forward to our indended project.
"Black Widow” is the song of the band "Wolftananzug” located in Münster. For them, we created the music video. But, before starting shooting, we had to do a lot of different, but important, things. We had to find a story, had to assign tasks, had to find actors and locations as well as creating a storyboard and some moodboards to become sure about what we wanted to do. Only than we could begin with our days of shooting outside and inside the bar we found.
Design / Development
My task had been the lighting situation of the whole music video. For that reason I had to begin thinking about how I could get the best kind of lighting to suite the situation and story we imagined for our video. As the story was mystical and a little gloomy, so had to be the lighting as well. In agreement with the camera man and the director I managed to create the perfect lighting situation which underlined the mood in our different locations - the bar and the location outside of it.
Result
The music video is about the nightlife of the "Black Widow", a dangerous prostitude, who always demands a tribute from the men who make use of her service. The narrative structure is divided in two different, coexisting narrative threads - the events, which take place in the bar and those, which show the nightly atmosphere, the "hunting area" of the "Black Widow". In the end, those two narrative threads blend into each other and reveal an astounding conjuntion.
